Robin Lee Hatcher Hi, Nancy. Authors often get asked about where ideas come from. For me, I often don't know the true genesis of an idea. So much happens in the subconscious. The Where the Heart Lives idea began because I had learned about the orphan trains while doing research for another book, and it nestled in my heart. Later, I thought about three siblings, what it would mean for them to be separated as kids which happened quite often during the years of the orphan trains. And from that the series was born.
