I'm curious - how much research goes into your novels, Diana? You cover such a wide range of topics.

Diana Gabaldon Well....lots. I don't know how to quantify it. I do the research concurrently with the writing, so I'm researching throughout the whole process (it takes 2-3 years to write one of the Big Books, with smaller novellas and things on the side). Fwiw, my main reference collection has about 2,200 books at the moment--most are listed on LibraryThing, if you'd like to check them out.
