What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Setta Jay ~ Write!
~ Go to a writing conference if you can. I really started putting my first book together after my first RWA conference in 2012. I gained invaluable knowledge from amazing authors who are incredibly successful. Those workshops were worth the price and then some.
~ Make sure your editor and/or beta's aren't too nice. They need to be brutally honest. It's important to know if you have content problems or awkward areas. My editor has pointed out everything I've ever been dinged on in a review. :)
~ A "professional" proofreader is a mandatory for me. I tried having critical readers help me proof Ecstasy Unbound and I had to send it to a professional later. We may have thought we were equipped for that kind of work, but we really weren't.
~ Start your social media early.
~ Get your book out to as many reviewers as you can from the start.
~ Be nice. Maybe this should be number one...
~ Learn from the good AND the bad reviews. They will only make you better. Readers don't all like the same things and bad reviews can be just as wonderful as the good ones. They get your books into the hands of the people more likely to enjoy what you do.
