Cathrine asked Elizabeth Gilbert:

How do you pick what type of book to write next and is there a genre that you feel more comfortable writing than others?

Elizabeth Gilbert Hi Cathrine! I always have a lot of ideas swirling around, but I try to treat them like I'm a schoolteacher, trying to put an unruly classroom into order. I try to make my ideas line up, so I can see which one is the most persistent — which one REALLY wants to be made next. Right now, I'm working on a novel about New York City in the 1940s. I find writing novels much more difficult than writing non-fiction or memoir, but it's also more gratifying, because it requires all my brain-cylinders to be firing at maximum power. I like the challenge. I never feel more alive than when I'm working on a novel, and I'm never sure if I can pull it off.
