dannah asked Rick Riordan:

how do you keep motivation and love for a certain plot line or book idea? this has been my usual problem as an aspiring writer and i just wondered how you get through this hurdle. i've been a fan for 8 years now, so i wanted this piece of advice from my fav author :) love from palestine <33

Rick Riordan Thanks for reading! My main piece of advice is to forge ahead even when you lose interest or motivation. Finish the whole story anyway. It is VERY common for all writers (myself included) to get into a story and think 'Oh, this is too hard. I'll start working on another shiny new idea, and that will be easier.' Hint: It won't be any easier. You will have the same problem as before. Just keep going. Get to the end, no matter how iffy you feel about the first draft. I think you'll find once you've finished that you feel better about it, and you'll have increased your skills as a writer. Stay safe over there in Palestine and keep writing! We need your voice in the world!
