Where did you get the idea for Cirque Du Freak, and how much of the Darren Shan character is based on yourself?

Hi Elias,
the idea came to me one day when I was sitting in a car, babysitting a young cousin who was asleep. I was flicking through a Goosebumps book and reflecting on the fact that I would have enjoyed those books if they'd been on sale when I was a child, but at the same time noting that they were very formulaic and throwaway. I started thinking that what I REALLY would have loved as a child and teenager was a book that was as easy and catchy to read as Goosebumps, but that held more surprises in terms of its structure, and that was as dark as a Stephen King book. Then I had an idea for a boy who meets a vampire at a circus and reluctantly becomes his assistant... and it all exploded from there!

First of all I wanted to thank you, I love the saga of darren shan and I've read it at least 3 or 4 times and each time I drown in the world of vampires and vampaneze and its really hard to get back to the real world if you know what I mean ;). so this, rather than a question is a request and a desier. A movie. Is there going to be a movie series supervised by you and faithful to the books? make a movie pleeeease.

I was wondering Mr. Shan, Why did you have Darren die in your 12th book of Cirque Du Freak? and also, I was waiting in the 10th book for Darren to meet his parents later on. Why didn't you rejoin them? I really love your books, these are just some questions that have lingered in my head...
