Amirabbas Baharfar asked Darren Shan:

Hi Darren.I'm form Iran.your books are very popular between Iranian teenagers. But there is no copyright here.please claim about your rights on your books in iran. These publications are making money with your fame.Do you have a plan?

Darren Shan I'm very sad about the situation in Iran, because it prevents me from connecting properly with my fans there. I have tried many times to get the Iranian publishers to open talks with my agent, so that we could sign a contract and make it legitimate. They have chosen to ignore me at every stage, and even lie to my fans when the fans ask them about it. The truth is that my Iranian publishers are thieves and liars, who have refused to even discuss a deal with me -- and out of all the countries in the world where my books are published, they are the only people who have done that and paid me not a single penny for my work, keeping all the profits for themselves. I wonder what the Prophet would have thought of such people?

This doesn't mean that I bear my Iranian readers any ill feelings. I'm glad that my books are popular there. I just wish I could acknowledge the Iranian editions and be involved in ensuring they are correctly translated and marketed.
