Why do you think artist - professional and fans alike - are eager to draw Cabal in a top hat, while his headwear is described several times as simply "slouch-brimmed black hat"?

He just has a top hat personality, I think. Also, it has been decided without reference to me that the Cabal stories are steampunk, and therefore top hats are de rigeur. I have nothing against steampunk, incidentally, but I must admit I was a little surprised for Cabal to end up so characterised. Back to the subject of hats, I think I have put him in a Müller (a short top hat) at least once.

In the first novel about Cabal there's a dialogue between Johannes and Horst that suggests that both their parents are dead. Then in Brothers Cabal Horst thinks about visiting his mother in Hesse, but is affraid of "puting her in her grave with shock". That suggests that she is alive (for one can't give a heart attack to a dead person). Does this mean that Mrs Cabal has her part to play in some future novel or story?
