Bibek Lekhak asked David Wong:

How do you feel about people pirating your books?

David Wong It's just part of life these days, and with books I feel like there's less reason to do it because I give away the first 11 chapters of the book for free if the whole philosophy is, "I don't want to spend money until I've tried it." (they're at http://www.futuristicviolence.com). If you're using the justification, "I would never have spent money on it anyway!" well ... remember that when publishers decide what kind of books to keep publishing (and movie studios decide what kind of movies to keep making etc) you're voting with your dollar. So if you pirated something you wound up loving, you've actually discouraged more of that thing you loved from being made. If the material only appeals to people unwilling to pay for it, nobody is going to fund more of it. The money has to come from somewhere!
