Alyssa Sheinmel Hi Ceci - So glad you loved Faceless and thanks so much for your question! A while before my first book, The Beautiful Between, was published, I began jotting down notes for another book idea, the story of a girl who survives an accident that changes her face forever, but I was never quite ready to start writing, never quite sure how to tell this story.

But then my wonderful editor shared an article from a 2012 edition of The New Yorker about a man who’d received a full face transplant. I’m pretty sure I underlined more of the article than I left blank! Suddenly, I knew how I wanted to tell the story I'd been making notes about for all that time - I know it sounds corny, but it felt totally meant to be!
