Billy Hinshaw asked Heather Demetrios:

You may have answered this question before - but if young-adult fiction didn't exist as a recognized or legitimate format of literature, would you still write young-adult fiction?

Heather Demetrios Good question! Absolutely I would still write YA. There's something really powerful about writing books for readers whose lives you can really change. Teens aren't set on their path yet and the chance to inspire them is huge. Adults are a lot more set in their ways. I also just really love the genre-I read YA all the time. It's fun and thought provoking and I can never put my YA books down. And, finally, the YA community is so amazing. The readers, the writers, the bloggers--it's pretty cool to see how supportive everyone is of one another and the books. That all being said, I feel very lucky that YA is becoming more and more respected by adult readers. It's like having my cake and eating it, too. :)
