A Goodreads user asked Cornelia Funke:

Did you like the film of Inkheart? I know it was a little different but i always like to know if the author loved or liked the film adaption of there work

Cornelia Funke I did like some things about it - Paul Bettany first of all as Dustfinger. Jim Broadbent (though Fenoglio should be Italian)....I didn't like the whole Capricorn setting (despite Serkis being brilliant) it felt unreal, staged - the misunderstanding that things coming out of a book can't be real. I also didn't like that this is suddenly the story of a man looking for his wife instead a father protecting his daughter. I think Helen Mirren is very wrong as Elinor ( although she is of course brilliant s well)
In short: books are flying carpets, movies mostly shrink them into napkins. The shrinking for this one was done with passion and many brilliant artists, but sadly it's still a napkin.
