In Yield, Cal and Macy have a baby in the end, but because Macy's infertility was irreversible, an egg donor was needed. Cal's sperm and Mac's egg made the baby Macy is carrying; therefore the true biological mother is not Macy, but Mac. The baby will look like Cal and Mac; Cal basically had a baby with another woman. Why are all character happy about such a situation? Also, egg donors get paid. Was Mac paid?

Sawyer Bennett Hi Kat,
The fertility issues that Macy faced in this series was something very personal to me, having struggled with fertility issues myself. All couples are different in their decisions regarding fertility issues, and there are many different options available today. Egg donors are just one of those options.

In this particular situation, Mac made the decision to donate her eggs so her best friends would have the ability to have a child. Though it was not discussed in the book, the implication is that Mac donated her eggs, and was not compensated.

I hope that answers your questions - I apologize for the delay in my response! xoxo
