I just noticed a few similarities between the JDatE movie and Dean Koontz "Odd Thomas" movie and started thinking about what you mentioned about universes. Is it possible that John and Dave and Odd all live in the same universe? Given I'm thinking about two separate and distinct authors, any sort of "cross over" would more than likely never happen. But let's just say Mr. Koontz was interested, what would you think?
David Wong
I've mentioned in interviews before but this is kind of an object lesson in how similar stories get written. The first JDATE and Odd Thomas were being written at the same time and the section of JDATE featuring the shadow people was posted online a few months before Odd Thomas hit shelves (in 2003). Both I and Dean Koontz were fans of Art Bell's Coast to Coast AM (a talk radio show dealing with the supernatural) and my personal theory is that we both heard the same episode about shadow people around 2001/2002 and both immediately decided to incorporate them into our stories.
As far as cooperating with another author on a cross-over thing, the obstacle there will always be that I'm impossible to work with. Ask anyone.

Dear Mr. Wong, My name is David Neilsen, and I'm a Trustee of the Warner Library which serves Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, NY. This Halloween, we're holding a fundraising event to raise money for our library and I was wondering if you'd donate a signed copy of one of your books for us to raffle off as a prize? Please let me know. Thank you. Sincerely, David Neilsen

I noticed in the answers to one of your other questions, you said, "...so we're talking fall of 2020, assuming we're all still alive then". Do you think we'll all still be alive then? What do you think is the likelihood of that not being the case? Do you think that it's more likely that you or the person who answered the question will die of a heart attack, or world powers will start exchanging nukes/bio-weapons/etc.?
