Eden asked Elizabeth Hoyt:

Hello! I have recently done a complete reread of all of your Maiden Lane books (wonderful!) and I have a question you may have answered this before, but I have not seen it. Where do you get the inspiration for the stories that start each chapter? Are they written by you or do you find them?

Elizabeth Hoyt Hi Eden!
Yup, I write all the fairy tales that start the chapters in my books, but like most fairy tales, they're inspired more or less by older stories. For instance, Darling Beast's fairy tale is obviously a riff on the Minotaur myth with a bit of a feminist twist. The fairy tale in Dearest Rogue is a loose mash-up of one of the myths about the founding of Cornwall and a Cornish mermaid folktale. Some I've completely made up to fit the story I'm writing, but even those usually have an element from older fairy tales. Nothing is new. ;-)
