I know you visited and enjoyed Croatia, and you must know that you have a serious number of loyal fans from there (myself, my mother, and my grandmother included), and name Oliver Jole is a combination of two Croatian folk singers names, Oliver Dragojevic, and "popularni Jole"... They are pretty awful if you ask me, but I can't help thinking that maybe you have a funny story about that?

Nope; I had never heard of them before you told us just now.
Jole came out of my head when I first invented the character, back in about 1989. He acquired his first name four or five years ago, when I began to develop the ideas for his book, which I created in a common way by generating a list of possible names and staring at it till his name presented itself from the pack.
He came really close to being Perry, a nickname for Perrin; dodged that bullet... Oliver suits him much better.

Lois McMaster Bujold:
I just reread The Curse of Chalion (for the 4th time!). I noticed that in Curse, the temples are said to be four-lobed, with the Bastard's altar housed in a separate tower, whereas in the Pen & Des books, the temples are five sided. Is this a difference because of the different time periods of these books? Or is it an Ibran-only fashion? Possibly because of the Roknari (Quadrene) influence on the Ibran peninsula?

I received a gift of Ivory Vikings -- it has the story of a man named Inleif, the first elected bishop of Iceland. He went to be consecrated after his election, but not knowing the ropes he went first to the Holy Roman Emperor. As part of his entourage he packed along a live polar bear as a gift, which he left with the emperor; did you know about Inleif and his bear when you added Fafa to the Hallowed Hunt?
