Hi! I've always been so interested in being an author and I just wondered what inspired you to be one and when. You have been a huge inspiration to me and I LOVE your books so much (especially the Keeper of Lost Cities). Also, where do you usually find inspiration for your ideas? (e.g. songs, real life experiences, current news, or does it just come to you?) Thanks for being AWESOME and I'm so EXCITED for book 5! :)

Shannon Messenger I actually didn't know I wanted to be an author until after I'd finished college. I started as an art major, but decided I didn't love that enough to have it be my career, so I dropped all my art classes and took some other random classes to try to find a new interest. One of those was a screenwriting class and I fell in love with it, so I ended up a film major, and that's what I graduated with. But Hollywood and I were a total wrong fit, so after about a year I left and took a normal day job. I missed writing, though, so I started looking into other things I could write and finally decided to try writing a book.

And I personally get ideas EVERYWHERE. I never know when something will strike me, that's why it's always good to have a notebook to write them down.
