When you visit a place that will be a setting in your novel, what is your research process and what do you look for to bring the place to life on the page?

Jacqueline Winspear Laura, I am never sure what I am looking for until I find it. I am keeping my eyes peeled and my ear to the ground looking for the nuggets that define time and place and that I can use to zoom in the camera, bringing the reader along with the characters as they go about their days.

Hi, I'm fairly new to the Maisie books so I'm looking forward to reading more. I see that you live in the USA now. When you write about Maisie travelling through London or further afield, do you go back there to walk the route, or is it all from your memory? Also, how did you come up with the name 'Maisie Dobbs'?
