You may have had this question before, but here goes: this wonderful garden at the Viceroy's palace which Ekatherin has designed, is it made out of Sergyaran native plants or imported plants? If the plants are imported, how to keep them from spreading out into the Sergyaran countryside? And if the plants originate from Sergyar, how did Ekatherin know which ones to use and so on, seeing as the planet is "brand new"?
Lois McMaster Bujold
I am no gardener myself, but we may assume it was a mix of local native and imported plants -- the planet, while new, has still had 40 years for people to find some things that work. People were probably transplanting the things they liked to look at to the places they wanted to look within 15 minutes of arrival (and making a few mistakes, too.) I expect she gave thought to not letting invasive species loose. (Well, apart from her fellow humans.)
The Gridgrad area was a newer local ecosystem for settlement, so would take a bit more research, but even there, there were people there before her.

Hello, I have a writing question about finding that balance between writing for yourself (e.g., the story you yourself would like to read); and considering or taking feedback about "what the public would want." Is there a creative vs. commercial dilemma? Or is it really more that THIS is the story that feels right, maybe people will like it, but if not, oh well. Just curious about how, or if, you balance these? TY

One of my favorite relationships is that between Penric and Llewyn though we only get to see it a few times. I've always wondered if there is something more intimate between Llewyn and her secretary than that between employer and employee. I feel like you almost hint so, but I might just need better glasses for reading between the lines. Also, could Desdemona have chatted with Llewyn while Penric was asleep-in theory?
