Hi Ruta! I just recently finished Salt to the Sea and I have to say, it was really amazing. I loved how all the characters felt so real, and I could tell there was a lot of thought put into the story. Anyway, I would like to know what motivated you to become a writer? Also, do you have any favorite authors or books that you loved growing up?

Thanks for your questions. Growing up I loved books by Roald Dahl. I also loved mysteries and thrillers and I think that's what led me to writing historical fiction - trying to dig up hidden stories! :)

While Between Shades of Grey was set during a significant historical event (WWII), Out of the Easy does not seem to be in the same way. What made you choose the 1950s, and in particular a brothel, to write about?
