(view spoiler)[Hi Erika!
I'm an emotional person in general, but writing the scene in "Between Shades of Gray" where Elena (the mother) dies, completely destroyed me. I put off writing that scene because I knew it was going to be emotional and that procrastination just made it worse for me. My husband secretly took a picture of me while I was writing the scene and I was a wreck. It was particularly emotional because much of the character of Elena was modeled after my own mother. Hi Ruta, I recently finished an ARC of Salt to the Sea and it was absolutely stunning. I wasn't aware of what it was about until I finished it, and I was wondering; do you hope to educate people who think they're reading fiction on these 'unheard-of' events, or do you hope to attract people who already know these things - or do you just write for the love of it? I'm looking forward to reading your other books soon x

Hi Ruta! So far I have only read "Out of the Easy" from you and I absolutely LOVED it! I can't wait to read your other books. Your writing is beautiful and completely engaging. My question is: how did you get the idea for "Out of the Easy" and what is your writing process like? I am a Creative Writing minor and I'm really interested. Thank you so much! ~ Kelsey :)

I have immensely loved Between Shades Of Grey. What I specifically liked was that you maintained a systematic contrast between history, love, hope, joy and sorrow. In addition to the fact that you were inspired by your family's history in Lithuania, I was wondering that what compelled you to write this remarkable novel?Thanks...
