Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Sybrina Durant I got the idea for my most recent book, Yarashell Abbily and Her Very Messy Room, a few years ago, when I asked one of my grand daughters, who was 3 at the time, this question: "What is your very favorite thing in the world to do?" She grinned and excitedly replied, "I like to mess up my room!" It was such an open and honest response that I immediately was inspired to write a song titled, "I Like To Mess Up My Room" which can be heard for free at sybrina.com. Three years later, this book finally came to fruition. Parents look into a messy room and see just that - a big mess that has to be cleaned up. But for a small child, a messy room is a wonderland of fantasy and play. No wonder children balk at the idea of "cleaning" that up.
