Best advice for those who are serious about writing or other art:
1) Write (or draw or play music, etc.) every day.
2) Read. A lot. Read everything, including things you think you're not interested in. ESPECIALLY things you're not interested in; those will spark your best ideas.
3) Marry a doctor. Worked for me.
