I am looking forward to being in Paris in June for the publication of "Salt to the Sea!"

I am drawn to hidden history and stories of strength through struggle, so I look for time periods that contain those elements. Historical periods of war are definitely rich with conflict. "Salt to the Sea" and "Between Shades of Gray" both contain themes of hope, courage, love, loss and the miraculous nature of the human spirit. I will try to continue to write on those themes, but I hope to do it in a unique way each time.

Hi Ruta! As someone who's family is still strongly connected to their Lithuanian heritage finding Between Shades of Grey was amazing because you don't see that country mentioned often. (My grandmother actually recommended it to me) All of your books seem to contain settings that we don't seem to hear a lot about, especially during the time frames you focus in on. What inspires you to select the settings you do?
