Xiomara asked Ruta Sepetys:

What experience most inspired you to be an author?

Ruta Sepetys Hello Xiomara,

Thanks for your question.

As a child, I read the book "James and the Giant Peach," by Roald Dahl. The story and cast were eccentric but I felt a close bond with the main character, James. I felt like I could relate to James and suddenly the world was less lonely. It made a profound impression on me and inspired me to write stories.

I now have a five-foot painting of Roald Dahl, my inspiration, in my home. Last week, my publisher sent me a regional sales chart, showing the rankings in a particular area. My book was listed at #6. And then I saw it. Just above me, at #5 was..."James and the Giant Peach." It was an incredible moment!

Thanks again!
