My excitement drives me. I used to spend all my time advocating for books. I have been an avid reader my entire life, and so I gifted books to friends and family; I worked in bookstores; I wrote reviews for various outlets; I just wanted to spread the joy of reading.
Once I wrote a novel and found out how thrilling that can be, and how easy and rewarding self-publishing can be (even before I had any monetary success), I've wanted to share that experience with others. I meet so many people who harbor a dream of writing a novel. My message is twofold: You can do it. And someone out there will want to read it.

I just posted a short story on Kindle. I don't think it'll sell a ton of copies but it was important for me to do this, because I love to write and wanted to share it (plus make some money, if not a lot). I was surprised to hear that "Wool" started out as a short story on Kindle instead of a novel. How did it take off? Where you surprised? Did you promote it or did it just happen? Thank you.
