My father fled from Lithuania as a young boy and some of his extended family as deported to Siberia. Learning about my family's history during that time period is what inspired "Between Shades of Grey."

My daughter requested to read 'Between Shades of Gray' for Gr8 English. Given the subject matter, I read it too. THEN told my mother she better read it too - brought back many memories for her (as a refugee from Latvia). She talked a bit more about that time period after reading it. Congratulations, looking forward to reading Salt to the Sea! Were you able to use family testimony at all?

I write too, have had short stories and poetry published, & would love to know how you managed to get your first book published. Did you have to submit to many publishers? Did you get initial rejections? I am aware how difficult it is to get published & hope to have my first novel published soon.
