Tracy Slone asked Kimberly McCreight:

Reconstructing Amelia was an amazing book and I truly loved every sentence. I loved that your writing truly allowed me, as a reader, to get to know Amelia and her mother. As I read the story, the anguish Amelia's mother felt and her need for answers was portrayed so intensely. Are you a mother and did you write her perspective from how you think you would've felt if you were in her situation?

Kimberly McCreight Hi Tracy, Thanks so much for reading and for your question. Yes, I am a mother, though my girls are younger than Amelia. And you're exactly right, a lot of what I did with Kate was imagine how I would feel. I can't speak for all mothers, but I know it's true for me (and lots of moms I know) that once you have a child you don't have a hard time imagining lots of scary things!
