Linsey Hall
That's a good one! A few things inspire me. As a teenager, I liked reading books about kick-butt heroines who did cool things. It made me want to do cool things too--and more importantly, helped me believe I could do them (along with very supportive parents)--and so I became an archaeologist. Being an archaeologist and loving stories about women fighting to shape their destinies inspired the Dragon's Gift series and also the Mythean Arcana, though they are in two different genres. The archaeology side is more obvious in the Dragon's Gift, but my love of history also bled over into the storylines in the Mythean Arcana.
The last thing that inspires me is that I want to create stories that readers can fall into. The number one most inspirational thing that happens at a writing conference (romance in particular) is hearing about the readers who wrote to authors to say that they read their book during a hard time in their life. That is such an amazing thing to be able to do. As an unpublished writer, it was hearing this that gave me the motivation to keep going. I wanted to create stories that did that for people. If I had my way, all my readers would have lives that involved only good things and my books would be just nice entertainment for an evening. I'd take that in a heartbeat. But in the event that things aren't going so well at some point, I hope that if that person finds one of my books, it will take them away and comfort them for a little while. That's my big driver in my writing. And it's also why you can count on a happy ending in my books. Bad stuff will happen, but the heroine will prevail.
