Goodreads asked Trish MacEnulty:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Trish MacEnulty Well, I always remember what Joyce Carol Oates once said: "I don't go to as many parties as other people do." Actually, parties are great and they have certainly inspired more than one story that I've written, but what she means is that you do have to sacrifice a certain amount of socializing. You have to make writing your priority. If you have kids, then writing is your second priority, but otherwise, it should be your number one priority.
