Bruce asked Michael J. Sullivan:

Will we ever see future stories of Royce and Hadrian, or just more of their past adventures?

Michael J. Sullivan Got me beat ;-). Seriously there are several issues some of which are beyond my control. The first is whether the two seem to be outstaying their welcome. It's really important for me to have the pair leave too soon rather than stay too late. For that reason, each Riyria book is written in a way that expects it to be the last. If reception is good, and people still want more, than I'll do one after. At some point there will be an indication that the readership has had enough of a good thing and when that day comes there will be no more Riyria books. I don't have a lot of control over that, other than writing the best books with the pair I can and then listening to the readers.

At this point I do think there will be another Riyria book, and at this time I'm planning on that being a Chronicle. We'll see after it's release to see if there is another one and at that time I'll decide if it is a Chronicle or a post-revelations.

So that's part of the equation. The other part has to do with juggling other books and series. I have recently expanded The Legends of the First Empire from five books to six. The story didn't change, but in doing my final edits I realized the last book was (from a structural standpoint) a smooshing together of two stories and when I hit what would be a climax in the middle of the book I bit the bullet and split them into two. So there are five books of that series still waiting to come out. Will people want a sequel to it? Who knows. But if they do then I'll have to balance writing books in two different series.

Then there is Hollow World. I've wanted to do a sequel to it since it was released. It doesn't have the popularity of either Revelations or Legends (judging from pre-release reports), but I don't care about that aspect. I have a compelling story I want to tell, and I just haven't been able to get to it.

Speaking of things I've not been able to get to, I really want to write the backstory for Esrahadon, Jerish, an Nevrik. Those are the events that happen two-thousand years after Legends and 1,000 years before Riyria. I'm not even sure if that is a single book or a series - I've not had the time to figure that out.

Then there is an untitled book which does happen post Revelations but has nothing to do with Riyria. It's actually written from the perspective of the goblins and I've had that outlined for about 3 years now and just haven't had the time to write it.

I also have a science fiction trilogy that's been waiting in the wings for just about the same amount of time. As well as a horror story. There are even a few more banging around. All in all I think I have between 12 - 15 stories in different stages that want to be written. That's a heck of a backlog!

So, my plan is to get through the Age of Myth release, which is a few days away but will bleed into July. During that time I'll be finishing edits on my last book of that series so those are all "knitted up" and I can put that series behind me. Then I'll use the rest of the summer sorting through all the various books vying for my attention and then deciding what to start writing when fall runs around. What that will be? I really don't know. I change my mind almost daily on that matter. But once I start I'll see whatever I pick through to the end.
