Bernie asked Inga Simpson:

Hello Inga. I'm so excited to be talking to you. My favourite writing is that which describes nature and our environment. I think you are so amazing with the way you convey your imagery. My question is- how did you gain your skills in this writing style? And what advice can you give new writers who aspire to write the way you do? Yours Sincerely Bernie

Inga Simpson Hi Bernie,
Thanks for this question.
I have learned a lot from reading (and re-reading) many works of nature writing - eg. Jay Griffiths, Rick Bass, Barry Lopez, Annie Dillard, and Mark Tredinnick - in combination with spending a lot of time immersed in nature. Learning how to slow down and pay close attention to the natural world is the first step, I think. Similarly, in the writing itself, trying to get deeper, lingering on a few specific details is important.
But I think what makes nature writing interesting - more than just description - is the writer's relationship with a particular place, and their imaginative exploration of that relationship. Perhaps trying to tap into that connection is a good place to start.
