Cynthia Shannon
Cynthia Shannon asked Delia Ephron:

Do you do anything differently when writing books vs. writing screenplays? Do you have a writing group for one of the other (or both)?

Delia Ephron They are so different. When I have an idea I generally know what it is -- a book, movie, essay, etc. Screenwriting has a lot of rules -- three act structure, inciting incident. Film is basically a visual medium and it is a collaboration. And it isn't literary. It's a blueprint for something else. I am more likely to "structure" the story -- know exactly where it's going with a screenplay. With a novel, I discover it as I go along, even though I do a ton of research on my characters and their histories.
I've never belonged to a writers group but I have lots of writer friends who love them. I do depend on my writer friends for advice and editing before I turn anything in.
