Read the type of literature that you want to write. I meet wanna-be poets who don't read poetry. How can you write something if you don't know what has been written before? Writers have to be readers.

OK, Harley, I have finished your book you so generously sent me, "Mother Don't Lock Me in that Closet!" Enjoyed it immensely, review will be quite favorable. However, I would like to add a short paragraph to the review as to what you've been doing since 1989, other than public speaking and consulting. And thanks again for the book. I'll be reading the one about grief and pet deaths in the vague offing. (?)
