How did writing this novel impact you? Will you continue to write other novels based on Mental Health issues?

Kathleen Glasgow Thanks for the excellent question, Raeanna! I used some of my own experiences with depression to fill out Charlie's emotional arc, so at times it was a little emotionally taxing to revisit painful feelings. But when writing a book about such important topics, I felt that I owed it to readers to be honest in portraying depression and abuse. I didn't want to romanticize anything or make anything look "cool," if that makes sense. Because that's not how it works in real life! To answer the second part of your question: maybe! I'll have to see--I kind of let plots take me where they want to go, so you'll have to tune in for book two.

I absolutely loved Girl in Pieces, as I could certainly relate, but my mom, when I suggested she read the novel to better understand what I was facing, had quite a different view. She believes the novel may have influenced my illness. Do you have any suggestions as to allowing parents to understand the separation between influencing and providing something to relate to?
