Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Eli Addis I first had the idea come to me in a dream. I just woke up and was like, "I have to write about this." I never intended for it to become a book. I thought it'd be a short story, but that turned into a novella, which turned into a full-blown novel. The book is based off of my perceptions of the world. Many of the characters are based off of people I love.

I based one of the characters off of my very good friends. I told her that she dies in the book. She asked, "Why would you kill me?" (Note: It's not really her, but I see her point.) I replied, "I had to kill you so that I can imagine what it would be like for the main character to go through that death."
