Goodreads asked Tabi Slick:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Tabi Slick I first had the idea of the first book's title, Tompkin's School: For The Extraordinarily Talented, a long time ago. I was probably thirteen when I came up with that title. But the story was completely different and I threw it out. Later, when I was in college I had these dreams and began writing in my journal about these twins. A boy and a girl who were human yet had these remarkably dark powers and then as I dove deeper in thought as to how this all came about I realized I had to write this story. I forget what I originally called the story, but it quickly became Tompkin's School.
