Hi! So I was reading about book publishing in my Media Textbook. and I was wondering how you got signed by your publisher? DId you submit manuscripts “over the transom", or did you go through an agent?

Shannon Messenger Um...I'm not sure I've ever heard the term "over the transom." But I have a literary agent, yes. Most of the larger NY Publishers (like mine--Simon & Schuster) don't accept "unsolicited manuscripts" (meaning manuscripts sent by authors without agents) so it was crucial to get an agent first.
