I just finished the tattooed heart and I wanted to thank you for producing such a wonderful piece of fiction. The Messenger of Fear series really changed my outlook on the world and I feel like a better person for reading it. What gave you the idea for the series?

Michael Grant The Ingmar Bergman movie, The Seventh Seal. I actually pitched it to my editor as "The Seventh Seal with fewer Swedes and more teens." There's a famous sequence where death plays a game, and that is the direct inspiration.

Hey Big fan of your books especially the Gone series with all its amazing character and thrilling story. Which character was your favorite and least favorite to write? Also how did you decide which powers each character would get like Sam and Cain for instance? Did you ever just give a character powers just to advance the story or did you always know which character will have powers?
