Jonathan Day asked Katharine Kerr:

Hi, it's wonderful you're taking questions here. Would the Late Bronze Age collapse (i.e.: prior to any of your books so far) be something you might play with? On the sci-fi end of things, if that universe someday developed strong AI and self-aware machines, would it be construed as a new race or one an existing race could incarnate into? (Not being able to answer because of potential spoilers is legitimate.)

Katharine Kerr Nope, on the Late Bronze Age question.

That 's an extremely interesting query about the AIs. I'll probably never get that far, but I'd assume they'd be dwarven-made. Given the dwarves' suspicious nature, they'd probably be created with strict controls that kept them only semi-sentient.
