Darren Shan The performers were based on the sort of performers you used to find in real freak shows, such as the bearded lady, snake man, etc.

Dear Mr. Shan I have been following your work for 13 years and I am a very big fan. Your books shaped the best years of my teenagerhood and they still continue to cheer me up. My question is about Larten Crepsley, by far the best character to ever exist! Is he based on a real person? or is he a work of your imagination?
