Hi John, hope you are well. Just wanted to say how much I have loved Malice, Valour and Ruin. I've never looked forward to a new book so much, can't wait for Wrath!! Also wanted to ask you a couple of questions: What first inspired you to start writing and who is your favourite character from the books? Thanks Ade
John Gwynne
Hi Ade,
It's great to hear from you. Thank-you for your kind words, I'm so chuffed that you're enjoying the series so far, and that you're looking forward to WRATH. Not long to go, now...
My inspiration to write - crikey, that's almost a novel by itself. A lot of it had to do with my circumstances. My daughter, Harriett, is profoundly disabled. I used to teach at my local University, but stepped out of it to help my wife in caring for Harriett. Soon after this writing began for me as a hobby, a bit of me-time. I had many inspirations, though - my wife and family for some reason always encouraged me to put pen to paper. And I love to read, of course. The authors that inspired me to write are many, but I must give honourable mention to Tolkien, Cornwell, Gemmell and Lloyd Alexander. Paradise Lost featured heavily in my inspiration, as well. I could go on about this for a long time! If you're interested in reading more about how I came to begin writing here's a link to a guest blog post I wrote on the subject a while ago: http://www.iwillreadbooks.com/2013/04...
As for your other question - there are so many characters that I like - all of them, really, so to pick out my favourite! And some of them are not even human. I'm very fond of Craf and Storm. Corban, of course, Brina, Maquin, Camlin. Tukul. Alcyon. If I had to choose, though, it would probably come down to Gar.
I hope that helps,
Best,
John

Hello John from the Netherlands.
At first I wanted to write a longer question but then I saw the requirement
Thank you for this great series! After Tolkien its a series which inspired me great in my point of view and morale about life. Especially the scene between Meical and Corban and choicing between good and evil.
Then my question is it me or were the Gods Elyon and Asroth inspired by the Christian God?

John Gwynne:
So Goodreads lists Ruin as being released on June 18th. Is it really? Because if so I need to reread the first two novels (again) in preparation. And I need to make a calendar where I mark the days with a big red cross like in the tvland :D Also just an fyi I won't be offended if you send me an advance copy :P

Huge fan, I am so happy people like you can create such amazing books. I look forward to reading any an all of your future books. You have made a dedicated reader out of me from your first three books in the faithful and the fallen series. I hope Wrath will also be release as an audiobook? I have thoroughly enjoyed the first three so far!!
