Santiva Rimpy
Santiva Rimpy asked Lauren Oliver:

Hi! I really liked your Delirium trilogy. It was one the best series I've read! So, I want to write my own novel someday. I wanted to how do you develop imagery or figurative language while writing and how do manage your time to write?

Lauren Oliver Hi Santiva,
Thank you so much. Awesome that you want to write a novel someday! I think the best way to hone your voice, including your particular use of figurative language, is to pay close attention during your day-to-day activities about how you might choose to describe a certain event, natural landscape, or person. I used to carry around a notebook and jot down descriptors of what I saw and experienced.
In terms of finding time to write...I just really try and make it my top priority. I started getting up earlier so that I could do all my writing before the work day begins at 9 a.m. I find that if I prioritize it first, it happens. If I wait and delay, however, the day gets away from me.
I hope that helps!
