What are your top ten fav books?

I've been trying to come up with an answer to this question for three months now, and I just can't. :D I don't really think that way--I mean, the two books that I have the most emotional connection to, that have been favorites all my life, are Watership Down and The Last Unicorn. But there's also The Color Purple, and Lavinia, and--well, I just... I read a lot.

I am remembering another SF book where the female protagonist was on an ambulance ship associated with Core Central. All I remember now is that at the end of the book the main hospital of Core Central was doing illegal medicine in a hidden ward on the hospital. I am now reading Machine and having deja vu feelings about this other Core Central story. What is the other book I am remembering?
