KL asked K.M. Shea:

I just discovered Timeless Fairy Tales and I like every book I have read so far :) I just finished The Wild Swans and I was a bit surprised that Gabrielle isn't really close with Elise (since Gabrielle is friendly in general) (and what happened between Sole ambassador and Steffen?). Do you plan from the start that you'd jump back to tell Gabrielle story after The Wild Swan? Once again thank you for the series.

K.M. Shea Yes, when I first started writing Wild Swans I knew Gabrielle and her cat were actually the famed Hero and Puss in Boots, which is also why I thought over their relationship a lot!

As is hinted at in the book, it's not that the girls don't get along, but more of a logistics/time issue. Though Gabrielle is now a princess, she is still the Marquise of Carabas, and spends a lot of her time there seeing to the reconstruction. Elise, on the other hand, is in charge of the treasury, which makes her quite busy as well. Top it off with seven brothers to mingle with, Puss hiding his true abilities, and a court to run, and neither girls would have much time to create a solid friendship. (You can actually get a glimpse of that if you check out the Puss In Boots extras on my website :D)

It can be a challenge to keep all the storylines on track and the characters straight, but involving the characters in multiple stories really makes the world believable--in my mind at least! ;) Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy future fairy tales!
