Robert Teeter
Robert Teeter asked Forrest Gander:

In "Then Come Back," your new translation of Pablo Neruda's "lost poems," you say, "There's a love poem that turned my solar plexus into a cavern." I'm guessing it might be number 4 for its complexity and surrealism. Which one did you have in mind?

Forrest Gander Geeze, Robert. I just saw this-- two years late. So sorry. Yes, a lot of people (and critics) consider 4 the major poem of the book for just the reasons you cite. I was thinking of the much simpler poem number 2. Its simplicity is part of its appeal to me. But I go back and forth on different days. I'm glad you were reading the book.
