Martha asked Kristan Higgins:

Hi Kristan. Cambry-On-Hudson was the setting for If I Only Knew. Now it is also featured in On Second Thought. Is it patterned after an actual place? If so, what place(s) did you visit? BTW, I am not from the East Coast (at all). I was born and raised in the Midwest but now live in the SW. I love reading about town, places and settings out East that I can only imagine. Thanks!

Kristan Higgins Like a lot of my settings, it's an amalgamation of several towns along the Hudson River. My sainted husband and I took a nice long drive up there (it's about an hour and a half from where we live) and spent the day wandering around, poking in shops, sitting in a bar, eavesdropping and reading the local paper. I always prefer to visit an area I'm writing about to get some authentic details for the book...regional phrases or landmarks or food. I love it when I get a letter from someone who says, "How did you know about grape pie?" or the like. It's very gratifying. : )
