To answer your question: Very little. I'm writing about lives very different from my own. That said, I think that emotionally the stories are quite autobiographical in the sense that I imagine how I would feel if I was living in that time or in that situation. Does that make sense?

Lisa, I would like to thank you for such a wonderful story. As an adoptee who reunited with birth parents, I really appreciate how well you provided insight into each characters challenges and overall angst with an almost indescribably emotional and entrenching event. While all your books are wonderful, this one is truly special to me. I don't have a question, just a Thank You. :) ?

Ms. See. Did you grow up in America and/or both countries determining that China's history needed to be told? Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is my favorite. The fan being a source for sending messages was fascinating to me. War and strife are inevitable topics. I love that we learn the hidden stories in your books. You are in my top 10 authors.
