I have to go all the way back to a classic from 1941 to answer this question. There are many more but my favorite couple would have to be Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund - Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca. It is a timeless tale of war, love and sacrifice. The hero makes the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good... his devotion to freedom and country came first. It doesn't get any better than the scene where Sam the pianist plays, "As Time Goes By"
