What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Isabel Lopez Read a lot. Decide which authors inspire you and why. Develop your unique style of writing by blending those writing styles that speak to you. Don't get bogged down with the myriad of rules on grammar; just know the basic rules of grammar and write. Visualize your scenes like a movie and write what you see, hear, feel, smell so that the reader can see the movie in your head. Someone out there will love it, but grow a thick skin for those that don't. Make those first three paragraphs grab your reader by the throat, either through gripping action/mystery or the beauty of your prose. If this is your calling, giving up will never be an option.
